Brush twice with fluoride toothpaste, clean between teeth once a day, and keep sugary drinks to mealtimes. That routine prevents more fillings than any gadget. Dr. Alok Bhardwaj checks technique at six-month visits in Jaipur.
Is brushing twice enough?
It covers chewing surfaces. It does not clean contacts between teeth. Use floss or a small interdental brush at night. CDC oral health basics: cdc.gov/oral-health.
The two-minute method
- Soft brush, 45-degree angle at the gum.
- Outer, inner, then chewing surfaces. Two minutes total.
- Spit. Do not rinse hard if you want fluoride to sit.
Should I use mouthwash every day?
Optional. It does not replace mechanical cleaning. If your mouth is dry, skip alcohol rinses and drink water.
When should I replace my toothbrush?
Every three months. After flu or COVID, replace sooner. Electric heads follow the same calendar.
Diet that fights the routine
Sipping sweet tea all afternoon feeds bacteria between brushes. See foods that help enamel. Night bottles for toddlers are a common cause of early decay.
